The trial was conducted in the spring and summer of 2020 with processing tomatoes (variety AB314) at the Center for Irrigation Technology of Fresno State University. Nitrogen (N) fertilizers treatments were UAN 32 and Nitricity’s nitrate-based fertilizer program – Calcium Nitrate (CN) and Potassium Nitrate (KN).
Based on yield and N rate, the Partial-Factor Productivity (PFP) was calculated for both treatments. The PFP is calculated by dividing the yield by the units of N applied. This N use efficiency ratio was higher for the Nitricity program (0.47) likely due to the higher agronomic efficiency of nitrate-based fertilizers compared to UAN (0.20).
